The Great Flood of Grand Rapids!

Ok, sure, it really wasn't that great, but it had not happened in around 20 years. Not to mention, I have never seen flooding like this before. What happened was during the middle of May 2004 it rained. And rained. And rained. And rained. I kept expecting to see animals marching two by two towards an ark. After most of the rain was through, Conner and myself took a drive to see what we could see. Below are some of the photos.

Grand Isle Golf Course

I have blown up the sign that you can see in the big picture. Talk about a water hazard! No kidding the practice tee is closed! What you should be seeing is beautiful, green, rolling fairways and greens. Below are two more pictures.

Three more pictures from the golf course. The four pictures above were taken on Monday, the two below were taken on Wednesday after the water had risen three feet or so. If you look closely, you can see a canoe out in the water in line with the telephone pole at the bottom left. I have blown it up for you in the center picture. Check out the guys using the driving range! Crazy!

Riverside Park

Below are pictures that Conner and I took while taking a walk around Riverside Park. Riverside Park is in Grand Rapids, not far from downtown. The picture to the lower left is a street off Jupiter Ave. The picture was taken on Monday. By Wednesday all you could see was the yellow arrow. The picture to the lower right is the bike trail at Riverside Park.

Check out the kid riding his bike out to the playground. What a nut! These pictures were taken on Monday. By Wednesday I was no longer able to get anywhere close to the playground. The water had risen about three feet or so.
